CELEBRITY BAKER JOINS BIRTHDAY BASH

Can you bake cakes worthy of a champion? That’s the challenge being launched by Country Harvest in Ingleton...and what’s more, the Food Hall wants not one but 25 champion cakes to mark its 25th anniversary.

Yorkshire baker and a former winner of TV’s Great British Bake Off Nancy Birtwhistle will be the celebrity judge at the fun event alongside Country Harvest owner Mike Clark. The judges will taste each of the 25 cakes in a marquee at Country Harvest on August 9th, before deciding on the top three winners who will receive prizes totalling £450.

Nancy, who won the television show in 2014, is well known for her no-nonsense bakes and the ability to troubleshoot kitchen problems. After the judging on August 9th she will demonstrate how to make an open fruit tart as she discusses pastry and cake making. Tickets for the Perfect Pastry event at 6pm cost £7.50 and include a cream tea to enjoy while watching Nancy’s masterclass.

“We think the whole day will be a real celebration of Country Harvest and our 25th anniversary. We’d love 25 people to bake a celebration cake for us…apart from a size restriction it can be any sort of cake and decoration you like and it doesn’t have to be connected to Country Harvest at all,” said Mike Clark. The winner of the first prize will receive £250 in cash and also be asked to create a special celebration cake for the business’s official 25th anniversary on October 20th. “We will provide all the ingredients for that cake, after all we have a fabulous Food Hall to source things from,” said Mike.

Anyone wishing to bake a cake should email suecountryharvest@gmail.com with details about the bake they would like to do. The only rules are that it needs to fit on a cake board measuring a maximum of 12in by 12in and you need to bring it into Country Harvest on the A65 at Ingleton on August 9th, ready for judging at 5pm that day.
